One 60-day cruise circling the Australian Coast is being halted following the death of an older female passenger who was abandoned by the ship on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the excursion for a pause. The vessel sailed away leaving her and returned after some time after the personnel discovered the lady was missing.

A large-scale search operation discovered her body the subsequent day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, alongside law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that travelers and staff on the vessel were notified that the remainder of the journey had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and prior engine troubles".
